In Practice

Film, music, fashion and art have shaped the way I see the world for as long as I can remember. I grew up as the person constantly looking for the next artist, film, designer or idea that excited me, and over time that curiosity became something I wanted to participate in rather than simply follow. What began as fandom gradually became my career.

I have since had the opportunity to work directly within many of the worlds I grew up admiring: supporting artists and live music, working on fashion productions, contributing to editorial and eventually taking on social media, partnerships and events at Vogue Scandinavia. Being on the other side of those industries has only made me more interested in them. I love understanding not just the finished product, but everything that makes people care about it: the story around an artist, the way an image is presented, the audience that forms around a cultural moment, and the people working behind the scenes to bring it together.

That curiosity is what I bring into my work. I pay attention because I would be paying attention anyway. Whether I am working across social media, editorial, partnerships, events or production, I want to help create the kind of work that made me want to be part of these industries in the first place.

Social media

SOCIALS, FROM BOTH SIDES

My understanding of social media started long before I worked in it professionally. I built an independent platform to more than 40K followers and generated over 47M views through short-form content on Tiktok, learning firsthand what makes people stop, share, follow and come back. My work reached and received organic engagement from figures including Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, FINNEAS and Addison Rae, and was reposted by a U.S. presidential primary candidate’s official Instagram account.

I later brought those instincts to Vogue Scandinavia, where I co-led social strategy, managed talent and brand collaborations, analyzed performance and helped shape content around what was gaining traction. During my time there, the publication saw its strongest period of audience growth since 2024

About

Oskar Olszewski

At 24, my life and career have been far from linear. I grew up in North Carolina and was thrust into musical theatre early. By eleven, I had already been in eleven plays, at which point I decided, for whatever reason, that hockey was the natural next step. That lasted until high school, when I traded it for debate, student government and serving as junior class president.

I started college at seventeen and spent four years studying international politics, diplomacy and economics. Somewhere in the middle of that, I spent a year in Barcelona learning Spanish and a semester in Prague studying film. After graduating, I returned to Spain, this time to Madrid, where I taught English to primary school students.

When I eventually returned home to Asheville, Hurricane Helene devastated the region. I joined World Central Kitchen's response effort, helping distribute food to communities that had been cut off or badly affected by the storm. From there, I moved to New York, worked in Michelin Guide restaurants, coordinated artists for an arts and music festival organization and picked up work in fashion production on the side. Eventually, I found myself back in Europe, interning at Vogue Scandinavia in Stockholm, where I happily took on more responsibility than I ever expected and worked across editorial, social media, events, partnerships and production.

On paper, none of this makes a tremendous amount of sense. To me, there is a pretty clear throughline. Teaching made me more patient and caring. Studying film made me more inquisitive. Diplomacy and years spent living and travelling abroad made me more interested in how other people see the world. Hospitality taught me how to read a room. And becoming fashionable remains a work in progress despite my time in the fashion industry. (I am hoping my budget eventually catches up with my taste.)

More than anything, I have learned that I do my best work when no two days look quite the same. A new project, a new problem, new people from a completely different industry to coordinate with, figuring it out has consistently been the part of my work I enjoy most. I think of myself as something of a Swiss Army knife. Every job inevitably comes with its share of mundane and repetitive work, and I am perfectly happy doing that too, but I come alive being the person who can step into something complicated and figure out what needs to happen next.

What I want now is, somewhat paradoxical, stability. I want to establish myself at a company and within a community, do work I am proud of and build a life that gives me the freedom to remain curious outside of it. I want to travel to places people don't often go, speak with people whose lives and perspectives are completely different from mine, learn more languages and keep finding things I know nothing about. Most importantly, I want to take with me a part of each of those experiences to share with the community I have built.

I don't necessarily want to stop being an explorer. I want to build a life that makes it possible to remain one.

Photography

Whenever I spend time in a new city, I like to pick a direction and start walking with my camera, photographing whatever catches my attention along the way. I shoot on a simple mirrorless digital camera but have collected vintage film lenses that I adapt to the body, which bring subtle artifacts, warmth and texture that I find missing from more technically perfect images. The process continues long after the walk itself. I love sitting down in Photoshop and spending hours experimenting with an image until it feels the way I remember the moment.

Music production

What started as a way to pass the time during COVID grew into one of my greatest passions. I work primarily in Logic Pro X, producing across genres but almost always incorporating electronic elements. I’ve made instrumentals for friends, remixed songs from artists I admire, and developed a particular love for “ear candy”, the subtle sounds and details that can disappear beneath a vocal but give a track its atmosphere, texture and character. Over time, that interest has made its way into my professional work as well, giving me the opportunity to route instruments for bands, mix live audio and record live studio sessions.

3D modeling

I taught myself Blender and Coohom mostly through YouTube tutorials and trial and error. I like the freedom that comes with not always knowing the “right” way to do something. Some of my favorite results have come from small mistakes that took a project somewhere unexpected. Over time, I’ve put those skills to use creating album artwork for friends, experimenting with interior design, and modeling virtual spaces, furniture and objects for work. I’m still constantly learning, often by starting with an idea and figuring out how to make it along the way.
